Rude Patients

I don't understand why patients are so rude to the pharmacy staff, and more importantly, I don't know why we allow it.

Obviously, the pharmacist is making $1 or more per hour to fill scrips as efficiently and safely as possible, however, that does not mean that we should be able to be treated like shit. I have continued to notice a pattern developing; the poorer the patient, the more rude they are. What pisses me off even more is that a large chunk of my paycheck is paying for these shitbag's Percocet, Soma...(insert any abused substance here).

Recently, I have been reading The Pharmacy Alliance's DSI Agreement, which they suggest all Pharmacists have their employer sign before in turn signing a contract. I strongly agree with all of these guidelines, and I swear that when I am a pharmacist I will not be treated like complete shit.

Fuck being caring for extremely rude people who obviously think they don't need they help or just want to get high.

I will send them elsewhere...this sort of treatment should not be tolerated.

Prescribing Prowess

As most of you are aware, pharmacy technicians are not able to take prescriptions over the phone, however, any jackass at a doctor's office is allowed to call them in. I think this is wrong, especially when I witness power-trip these uneducated secretaries display.

The other day I was talking to my Mom who believed that she needed an antibiotic. Naturally, I recommended she call her doctor, but alas she apparently had the situation "under control". She decided to have her friend call in a Z-Pack, since she is sure that is what our doctor would have prescribed anyway. Last time I checked this friend of my mom was not a doctor at all, she was a lowly secretary working at a general practice. According to my Mom, they call me in stuff all the time, the pharmacist there knows my friend since she calls in so many prescriptions.

Welcome to my rant.

I don't care how long you have worked at a doctor's office, or what you think you know. If you cannot legally prescribe the medicine, then don't fucking do it. I am not naive;this sort of thing happens all the time, but it really pisses me off. Where does this bitch get off for one second thinking she has the power to prescribe medicine and abuse the trust of her employer/doctor.

If you were a doctor how would you feel if some community college drop-out was calling in prescriptions under your name? What if she prescribes Elavil to someone currently taking Paxil? I am sure her 10 years of secretary experience do not give her the pharmcuetical nor medical knowledge to call in prescriptions for people without the doctor's permission.

I wonder what kind of controls this girl could be pimping out for her other friends...
